Willard Phelps
Chairman, Yukon Energy Board of Directors
Willard Phelps is the Chair of the Yukon Development Corporation and Yukon Energy. He has an extensive background in the energy business which began early on in his life: he’s a member of the family that started Yukon Electrical Company Limited in the early 1900s.
Mr. Phelps became involved in politics in the 1970s and remained active in the Yukon Legislative Assembly until the late 1990s. His roles included Government Leader (1985), Leader of the Official Opposition (1985-91), Deputy Speaker (1974-75), and various ministerial portfolios including Minister of Justice, Minister Responsible for Yukon Development Corporation, Minister of Health & Social Services and Minister of Education. During his time as Government Leader, Mr. Phelps initiated the process to have the Northern Canada Power Commission’s Yukon assets transferred to the territory.
